Sitting on sofas

Because we're crazy, we spent the weekend looking at sofas.

Why?

Well because the sofa I bought from Pottery Barn is crap less than awesome and after three years of suffering dealing with it, we decided to look around.

Why is it soooooooo flipping hard to find a nice contemporary sofa...that isn't white...isn't uncomfortable...and isn't over priced? If you know that answer, then let me know because I'd love to know the secret.

We found a few online at Z Gallerie, but I just refuse to even think about buying something without sitting my big ol' butt in it. I mean come on...it might be pretty...but can you pass out on it without being in pain for the next 3 days?

We ended up finding two that we liked. Two totally-different-not-even-remotely-the-same-except-for-the-fact-that-they-were-sectionals...

First up was a dark dark dark brown leather sectional. It was comfy, good color and we could make a lot of different lay outs with it.

Of course you have to properly test the sofas to make sure they work for your lifestyle. This is my spread eagle test. The pillow is apparently my censor bar (thanks Nate).

The other was a brownish fabric sectional (the fabric is tonal). This too was comfortable and had built in side tables and the fabric totally would hide stains (joking...but not really).

I decided to do a more lady like test for this one. No pillow censor bar needed!

Close up of the fabric...cause you really can't see the pattern/texture in the other photo.

Currently those are our two front runners. Now to make the decision...

What would you choose?

  1. I like the second option! No justifications, just my preference :)

  2. I hate leather so I would go with the 2nd one.

  3. I'm not a fan of leather. I don't like how it sticks to my legs on a summer day when I where shorts! I do love that second one though. I like the color and pattern as well!

  5. Second one! I looove it. However I am a bit bummed that it doesnt have arm rests. I like to lay down and lounge. Resting my head on an armrest is the way to lounge. But really love the fabric and the end tables. What store is it from?

  6. I like the first one best.
It has a classic, but modern look to it. It could be versatile.
PLUS, (like the poster above) I need arm rests.

However, the second would work with a wider colour-scheme.

I love sectionals! My next couch is going to be so big and comfortable : )

  7. The dark brown leather. It will last longer (as long as you take care of the leather) and is a classic style that won't go away in like 2 or 3 years.

  8. I like the colour of the second, but I would probably go with the first.
Leather wipes clean - we've had a leather sofa for 10 years now and still love it
The attached end tables will limit your placement options.
The leather sectional looks like it has several sections, so you could always use a centre section as a an armless chair, and then have a smaller sectional which gives you more layout options.
    I like having armrests.

  9. The store we were in is local to the area, but the line is something you can find all over the country. The company is called Najarian Furniture and the sofa is called Milan. They have a bunch of other great sofas on their site as well as a way to see who sells it in your area.

  10. We are on the look out for a dark down leather sectional- I love the one in this photo... what is the brand? Do you know the style or model specifics?

  11. I don't know the name or make, but we could call the place that had it and see if they can give us any of the information on it.
