Hi, I'm Ashley...
...and I am freaking out!You may have noticed a little absence last week and even lack luster posts. It may or may not be because my brain just shut down. Only for a moment, but long enough to knock me on my ass.
Why you may ask?
Well we've been trying to keep it to ourselves, but seeing as this big news is sneaking up on us...as in two months to go. I thought I would share with you all finally. Now some of you may already have an idea of the news, as I have hinted towards it in a few of my post. So good on you if you know what I am freaking out about.
We've kept it quiet for so long because...well it's the military and you just never know if your plans are for sure until the very last minute. Plus there's the whole fun world of OPSEC and PERSEC.
Anywho...onto the news...
We're moving!
Yep that's right folks, in two months we will be driving away from this god forsaken state and moving to the mid-west (even though it seems more east)! Ohio to be exact, where Nate will be growing his brain (working on getting his masters degree). That's all I'm giving you though. We're trying to teach some people to not talk about us and our lives so much, so I figure I should set an example.
Whew, now that I got that out of the way I can move onto the freaking out. In two months I have to get our lives ready to be packed up and shuffled across six states (give or take a state).
Not.looking.forward.to.this.
I've told Nate a few times that we are so not movable people. I like things; trinkets, pictures, vases, candles, knick-knacks...etc. These are not easily moved. My mind races as we decide how much we want to have the movers take and how much we want to move ourselves. I know this is a part of military life, but it doesn't keep my mind from racing. I'm a planner. I like to know what is going to happen and when. This is not how the military works. This is where we butt heads.
I will still make my lists. In fact this weekend was spend scouring the city for planner refills, just so I can plan things out as best as I am allowed.
I may have freak outs in the coming months, please bear with me. I promise it will all be worth it. If nothing else you can be amused by my slow spiral into insanity. Plus when we get into our new place (wherever that may be), I'll have to decorate and make things!
So won't you join me as I pack up my hot glue gun, husband, and dog, and trek across the country?
If you have any helpful tips for moving I'm all ears. Also, if you are familiar with Ohio I'd love to know all about the state. This mountain girl has never lived east of the Mississippi let alone in a different time zone.
Saying that freaks me out...must breath...breath. And not eat to cope with stress.
Wish me luck!
I plan too... I just make like 50 plans so I am more likely to have something when the Army changes their mind.
ReplyDeleteDangit! I was hoping you were going to say Washington. Regardless, I'm looking forward to hearing all about the new place you'll find :)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! and overwhelming it sounds like! Cant wait to read all about it! I;ll be checking back for sure =D I can always use some decorating tips.
ReplyDeleteStopping By From SITs.
I can't wait to read more about it! I'm following you now!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS! :)
Do not skimp on the bubble wrap! I have a lot of knick knacks and pottery, and I have learned that skimping on the bubble wrap means broken or chipped stuff. Prepare to use two or three huge boxes of the stuff, and pack the delicates so that they are wedged into the box against one another tightly (with lots of bubble wrap in between!) This will keep them from moving and chipping.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Stopping by from SITS - Happy Monday! I'm a planner as well, probably why I didn't marry military! We too are not a very moveable family - too many memories from 26 years of motherhood to make it easy! Sheesh, I'd be lucky to get the clothing packed much less anything else!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the move!!!
Found you on SITS and thrilled! What a creative blog you've created! Thx for the great share!
ReplyDeleteWe live super close to Ohio, so I'm going to guess its probably pretty similar to where we live...your winters are going to be a lot different...but the wind isn't so bad!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah we have a few different plans already in the works for those "just in case they change their minds" moments.
ReplyDeleteHahah...ask my husband, I've been looking at homes in the Seattle area. I've told him that I think that area (state) should be our forever home.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by! It'll definitely be an entertaining ride for all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and following! I'll try to keep everything light hearted...even if I'm ripping my hair out.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at bubble wrap. I love the idea of getting to pop all of that wrap after we unpack everything. Thanks for the advice, I know you just went through a move as well.
ReplyDeleteI never had plans on marrying a military man, but love doesn't care about jobs. I would have a hard time moving from a place I had been for 26 years, so I totally feel you there. 3 years is a different story though.
ReplyDeleteThanks so glad you like my blog! Hope to see you around more!
ReplyDeleteWe're actually from Colorado (okay I am) so I am use to snow and cold. In fact I miss it (crazy I know). We're looking forward to getting up there are exploring!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I lived in Ohio for 24 years (I'm 25, haha). I've lived all over the Columbus area (and went to grad school there) and Cleveland (and went to undergrad there) and I have family in Southern Ohio. If you want to know anything about the state, I'm probably your gal. Just shoot me an email and we'll chat!
ReplyDeleteOh and I found you through SITS!
ReplyDeleteyay! congrats and good luck! thats very exciting news
ReplyDeleteoh my. the packing, the sorting, the getting-rid-of-stuff...fun times.
ReplyDeletegood luck :)
I grew up in Dayton and now I live in Cincinnati (which is about an hour S of Dayton). Feel free to email me with any questions you might have! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have had a lot of corporate moves over the years and the best thing I learned was to always pack a "first morning" box that has the coffee maker and coffee and cups and some towels and soap and toilet paper and anything you could possibly need to get started with a smile on your face. Believe it or not, we moved 11 times in 14 years -- now we've been in this house for 12 years in June. Good luck with your move!!!
